What It Does

Mocha Pro is a planar tracking and rotoscoping tool built for professional VFX work. It runs as both a standalone application and a plugin inside After Effects, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Avid, Nuke, and VEGAS Pro. The planar tracker analyzes entire surfaces rather than individual points, which makes it significantly more reliable than point trackers on shots with occlusion, motion blur, or perspective change.

Key Features

Planar tracking engine. Follows surfaces through challenging conditions where point-based trackers lose data. The foundational technology behind everything else in the plugin.

PowerMesh. Extends planar tracking to organic, deforming surfaces. Useful for face replacements, fabric, skin, or any subject that warps rather than moves rigidly.

Rotoscoping workspace. Three modes: Essentials for quick masks, Classic for standard roto, and Big Picture for reviewing 4K+ footage. Splines snap to edges automatically; X-Spline handles produce more natural curves than standard Bezier.

Object removal. Combines tracking with temporal interpolation to clean up wires, rigs, set extensions, or unwanted elements in a shot.

Lens module. Corrects or replicates lens distortion, essential for accurate VFX integration and matching shots across cameras.

3D camera solver. Generates camera data from tracked footage for 3D integration work.

360/VR support. Handles equirectangular footage with proper planar tracking for immersive content.

Who It’s For

Compositors on feature films, commercials, or episodic work rely on Mocha Pro for the shots that defeat simpler trackers. Roto artists benefit from edge-snapping and shape tracking that cuts manual keyframe work. Motion designers tracking graphics onto moving surfaces get a stable solution that holds up through camera movement.

Worth noting: Mocha AE ships inside After Effects subscriptions, but Mocha Pro adds multi-host licensing, the full lens module, stabilization export, and standalone operation. If you hit the limits of Mocha AE regularly, this is the upgrade path.
